Who are Family Konnect’s Youth Mentor Services for?
We work directly with and support NGOs and the DCJ (Department of Communities and Justice) working with youth in foster care and/or hostels.
The Youth Mentoring Program is a one-on-one program where a young person between the ages of 12 and 16 is matched with a youth worker for an agreed period.
YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAMS
For children and youth 12-16 years of age
Our programs aim at assisting the young person in achieving the desired goals from becoming more connected with their community, to addressing risk taking behaviour, increasing school attendance etc.
Each young person in the program is different and activities will vary.
The youth and appointed worker will design the activities according to the needs and interests of the young person.
The young person and the youth worker catch in public spaces like local parks, PCYC, gyms, cinemas, sporting facilities, etc. to engage in the type of activities earlier agreed by both.
Youth Workers and the young person will be supported at each stage of the program.
Family Konnect will be there to assist with any additional case management issues by engaging with the young person’s Case Manager as well as with their foster carer.
Why Family Konnect’s Youth Mentor Services?
We provide safe and nurturing mentoring services that foster the youth’s natural learning and development.
Family Konnect’s mentors meet the youth in familiar environments and initially model, encourage and practice the skill in focus together. Later, the mentor paves the way and provides opportunities for the youth to put the learnt skill into practice on his own but always supported by his/her mentor.
Our mentors have the experience and required skills and personality traits to establish a positive connection with the young person and made them feel safe, supported and celebrated.
Our team builds strong relationship both with the mentee and his/her carers and referees, maintaining them constantly informed of progress and necessary adjustments when required.
What is the process for engaging a Youth Mentor?
Our mentor-mentee matching process is simple and highly structured.
Our team of qualified professionals will not only conduct an analysis of the needs of the youth when allocating one of our qualified mentors. We also take into account their passions, leisure pursuits, and circumstances when finding a highly compatible mentor for them.

Together, the parent and social worker observe and/or interview the student about the questions in the checklist, to determine his/her level (basic, intermediate, advanced, or excellent).
Youths must be able to complete or be aware of a certain number of items to be able to advance into the next level.
Our exploration tool has been designed to help fifteen-sixteen-year-old teenagers fill some of the gaps in their experience with the help of our social workers or teachers, parents, and other adults in their lives.
Developing the type of skills listed in our checklist is part of growing up and getting ready for leaving home and leaving care – when the time is right!
